The aim of the present study is to identify the motivation type ruling among the cadets of the Military Academy according to the Self-determination theory as well as exploring the relationship between cadet’s motivation type and well-being. Therefore, a positive (engagement) and negative (burnout) components were used. It is expected that intrinsic motivation has a significant positive relationship with engagement and a significant negative relationship with burnout and in the other hand that extrinsic motivation has a significant positive relationship with burnout and a significant negative relationship with engagement. To study those relationships, questionnaires were applied to 232 cadets of the first, second and third years of the Military Academy. The results showed that intrinsic motivation has a positive relationship with engagement. However, extrinsic motivation is not related to burnout and doesn’t have a negative significant relationship with engagement, contrary to amotivation that is significantly adverse to well-being, showing a positive and significant relationship with exhaustion and cynicism.
