Abstract(s)
Due to its morphology, the Alcântara Valley is an environmentally sensitive place, having been occupied by heavy infrastructure over time. Currently, it is impossible to cross it in a pedestrian way and some of the neighbourhoods that make border with the Valley are in a quite isolated position themselves and from the city itself. This Final Master's Project seeks to invert this scenario. Firstly, we chose to study this Valley on a meso and macro scale, redesigning the infrastructures in order to liberate the territory, in order to create a diverse bio agricultural production, incentivising permaculture. Secondly, in the Liberdade Neighbourhood on a more micro centred scale, a housing complex of single and multifamily houses was designed on the hillside, providing access and routes, as well as catering and commerce establishments. Thus, we seek to demonstrate the importance of sustainability and the integration of agriculture in cities showing the benefits of this intervention in the Alcântara Valley for the current and future generation. Valuing the self-production and consumption of quality food goods, the pedestrian routes for crossing and better enjoyment of the valley, the intervention in the buildings will allow to seek the return of the Valley to the city and improve the quality of life of those who live in this area of Lisbon.
