Abstract(s)
Ao longo da história foram inúmeras as Pandemias que afetaram tanto a saúde física como a saúde mental da população. Em Dezembro de 2019, surgiu a infeção por SARS-COV2 (COVID-19), declarada como Pandemia em Março do ano seguinte. Esta doença rapidamente se disseminou pelo mundo e trouxe com ela o confinamento, o distanciamento físico, o medo da infeção, a crise económica e a incerteza em relação ao futuro. Estes fatores, aliados ainda ao estigma subjacente às doenças de transmissão de pessoa para pessoa desencadearam rapidamente ansiedade e o sentimento de pânico geral na população, sendo a divulgação excessiva nos media também um fator agravante.
É fácil compreender que os períodos pandémicos possam interferir na saúde mental. Neste sentido, torna-se interessante comparar esta nova realidade com as pandemias do passado, de maneira a prever de que forma a Covid-19 poderá afetá-la a longo prazo e como se irá refletir nas principais doenças psiquiátricas.
Throughout history they have been numerous Pandemics that have affected both the physical and mental health of the population. In December 2019, SARS-COV2 (COVID-19) infection appeared, declared as a Pandemic in March of the following year. This disease quickly spread throughout the world and brought with it confinement, physical distance, fear of infection, an economic crisis and uncertainty about the future. These factors, allied to the stigma underlying diseases of transmission from person to person, triggered quickly anxiety and the feeling of general panic in the population. Besides that, excessive disclosure in the media was also an aggravating factor. It is easy to understand that pandemic periods can interfere with mental health. In this sense, it becomes interesting to compare this new reality with the pandemics of the past, in order to predict how Covid-19 may affect it in the long term and how it will be reflected in the main psychiatric illnesses.
