The present work “Thatch in land of National Park-Peneda Gerês, Barroso, brief essay on
technique. life and Man” is summarized in the following essential points: - The study, illustration and enhancement of the ancient technique of thatched roofs, in lands of National Park - Peneda Gerês, specifically on Barroso, at a time when it was a culture turned inward, mainly due to their climate and geographic location; - An hypothesis of transposing this eco-friendly technique to the present day, but with new levels of security (specially concerning fire fighting), by using new safety technologies, already tested and applied on houses with thatch, in countries that preserve and still apply this traditional technique, like, England, Finland, Japan, Holland, Sweden, and South Africa (members of International Thatching Society); - Construction of two sculptural elements, one being a model of a thatched roof, characteristic of the region studied on this work, explaining the various stages of the process of building it; the other performing an interpretation of the theme, concerning the magical and poetical sense of the nest/shack/shelter, and its meaning for Man and animal
