The proposed study aims to analyze the representation of the contemporary world in the poetic work of Luís Quintais. This study reflects on how the author describes the city, starting from the imagery of ruin and disorder, and from a short tour of the city as a place in poetry. The echoes and remains are a prominent aspect in the poetic craft due to how they collect past and present, and resistance to oblivion/disappearance. The study also explores the weight of historical heritage in the dialogue of the subject with the world, with humanity's identity and his own - the latter worked on in particular with the resource of memory. Remembrance is analysed for its potential for dialogue with the past and understanding of the present. Furthermore, the study questions the subject's journey in his observation of his surroundings and the emotional impact based on feelings of boredom, fear, anguish, and conflict with the world, but also within himself, and the duel between the “I, the individual” and “you, the poet”. All this lyrical activity pulsates in an environment of darkness, with descriptions where shadows, night, obscurity predominate, which on a higher plane transpire an idea of finitude, tragedy, and ultimately an annunciation of destruction and oblivion in which humanity inhabits. Regarding language, this was always seen as the conducting flow of all the issues addressed, as it is the demand of the quintaisian subject: the reaching of the word that gives meaning to his surroundings. An interminable and arduous poetic journey that goes through the various dialogues with the objects of reflection in each poem and thus the meaning of this possibility of resistance was considered in the way the subject perceives the current reality when going against the trend or giving meaning to the poetry, as well as the discovery of making poetry as redemption.
