A manutenção do equilíbrio corporal é uma função extremamente complexa e envolve diversos órgãos e sistemas. Os principais sensores do sistema do equilíbrio encontram-se no labirinto, nos olhos, na pele, nos músculos e nas articulações. A vertigem cervicogénica foi descrita pela primeira vez em 1955, sendo frequentemente associada a lesões cervicais. Esta entidade é, ainda hoje, considerada um diagnóstico de exclusão e por isso, a sua etiologia é bastante controversa. Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo abordar a prevalência, as abordagens históricas, a fisiopatologia, os critérios de diagnóstico, exames complementares de tratamento e o tratamento para esta patologia.
The maintenance of the body balance is a fundamental and complex function that envolves the organs and systems. The main sensors of the balance system are in labyrinth, in the eyes, in the skin, in the muscles and in the joints. Cervicogenic dizziness is first described in 1955 and has been associated with cervical complications. This entity is, even today, a diagnosis of exclusion and therefore its etiology is quite controversial. This work has as main objective approach to historical guidelines, pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria, diagnostic tests and treatment for this pathology.
