This Final Master’s Project aims to explore the concept of residential care in Portugal, seeking to understand the needs of institutionalized children and young people to comprehend how architecture can influence how each individual experiences, inhabits and makes a space their own. Through conversations with professionals and contact with children, young people, and caregivers, the objective is to create a space that promotes integration, ownership, and meaningful experiences for institutionalized children and young people in Ourém: the project SOBRE_VIVER. The project analyzes the physical characteristics of a built environment and a therapeutic atmosphere, offering a safe and welcoming space for those who are in a situation of social vulnerability, and providing them with the opportunity to rebuild their lives and move forward in a healthy and happy way.
