| dc.description.abstract | The locality of A-dos-Melros, within the Alverca do Ribatejo and Sobralinho Union of parishes, is situated on the southeastern slope of a relief occupied by the Bom Jesus Quarry (CIMPOR), in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira. The area is dominated by Upper Jurassic (~145 Ma) carbonate formations, overlain by colluvial deposits and accumulations of loose limestone blocks. Previous studies report the frequent occurrence of slope movements, predominantly roto-translational, associated with marly lithologies and marly limestones. In recent years, residents have reported structural damage to dwellings, prompting the implementation of a multidisciplinary technical-scientific study. This dissertation assessed the potential instability of the A-dos-Melros slope based on the interpretation of geological and geotechnical boreholes, geotechnical monitoring, laboratory testing, stability analysis using Slope/W software, literature review, and field observations. Borehole data revealed colluvial deposits up to 17 m thick, resting on the Abadia Formation, composed of interbedded marly limestones with silty and clayey levels. Monitoring recorded millimetric displacements and localised piezometric variations. The results indicate overall marginal instability conditions, with one slope identified as having a Factor of Safety below 1, corresponding to an unstable condition according to Crozier’s criteria (1986). | en |
