Abstract(s)
This report, which is part of the supervised autonomous work component that culminates the Master's in Geography Teaching in the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education, of the University of Lisbon - Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território and the Instituto de Educação, aims to show the contribution of the study of the theme "Water”, for the development of skills for their sustainable use. The project was developed in a 1st year class of the Professional Tourism Technician Course, at Escola Secundária D. Pedro V, in Lisbon. It started in E@D with four 90-minute classes (45 min synchronous followed by 45 min asynchronous) and ended in the classroom, in a social distancing regime. It focused on the exploration of the first organizer of Module 3 – The Water – The Network and the Main Hydrographic Basins, in line with the UGI-CEG and the Essential Learnings, which guide the approach from a sustainability perspective, as a scarce distributed and poorly managed resource that everyone has the right to enjoy and the duty to return it to the environment in conditions that allow its subsequent use. The pedagogical-didactic experience brought the contents of the curriculum closer to situations close to the reality and interests of the students, using videos and current news from different sources and anchoring, whenever possible, the new knowledge in the knowledge already held by the students. Based on the geographical perspective on the sustainable use of water in Portugal, it was observed that the proper use of freshwater may have several perspectives, not always compatible with its sustainability, and it was shown that geographical education provides students with skills and competencies essential to know and understand the world and the importance of national water resources as resources with tourism interest. In this way, it contributes to the construction of citizens with full rights and more active, aware that their attitudes, when well-founded, matter and have an impact, particularly when thinking about the tourist use of water in a sustainable perspective.
