Esta publicação parte de um conjunto de reflexões sobre a importância e a originalidade do vasto legado informativo de matriz portuguesa relativo à China, estendendo depois essa análise a outras imagens europeias do mundo chinês. Da autoria de especialistas provenientes de diferentes disciplinas, como a Geografia, a História, a Matemática, a História da Ciência e as Ciências da Informação e da Documentação, os estudos aqui reunidos incidem sobre um conjunto de agentes e fontes documentais dos séculos XVI e XVII responsáveis pela elaboração do saber que esteve na origem do moderno conhecimento sobre o universo geográfico, científico e cultural sínico.
This publication starts from a set of reflections on the importance and originality of the vast information legacy of Portuguese origin concerning China, later extending this analysis to other European images of the Chinese world. Authored by specialists from different disciplines, such as Geography, History, Mathematics, History of Science and Information and Documentation Sciences, the studies gathered here focus on a set of agents and documentary sources from the 16th and 17th centuries responsible for the elaboration of the knowledge that was at the origin of modern knowledge about the geographic, scientific and cultural universe of China.
