O turismo é um fenómeno mundial que contribui de uma forma significativa para o desenvolvimento económico da zona acolhedora. Este facto ganha importância quando se trata de áreas rurais, em que o turista se torna mais exigente relativamente às experiências e ao destino que procura – por pretender fugir ao turismo de massa – e é mais informado e preocupado com o meio ambiente e com a saúde. Esta investigação pretende dar a conhecer Vila Viçosa, no distrito de Évora, e analisar a importância de uma unidade hoteleira com actividades equestres como complemento a actividades que já se realizam na zona. Para este estudo, foi necessário perceber o fenómeno do turismo, em particular do turismo rural, não apenas como alojamento, mas sim como um conjunto de actividades que interligadas poderão contribuir para umas férias diferentes e de qualidade superior. Para a concretização projectual desta investigação, seleccionou-se uma propriedade em Vila Viçosa, onde foi realizado um estudo de intervenção que pretende reforçar as actividades turísticas e de lazer da zona e gerar relações com o território envolvente – não só à escala da vila mas também à escala do concelho. É com base nestas premissas que se propôs a criação de um Agroturismo e de uma escola de equitação, inseridos numa estrutura de actividades complementares de que o concelho já dispõe, nomeadamente a Rota Tons de Mármore, e se sugeriu a criação de passeios equestres na região. Considerou-se, ainda, pertinente criar um pequeno espaço na unidade hoteleira destinado à divulgação e exposição da cultura portuguesa através de workshops sobre actividades agrícolas e equestres, de modo a integrar os turistas cultura local. Para além do suporte bibliográfico apresentado ao longo da dissertação, foram ainda realizadas algumas análises ao terreno – através de mapas ou de idas ao local – que ajudaram na organização dos princípios de trabalho.
ABSTRACT: Tourism is a global phenomenon which contributes significantly to the economic development of the welcoming zone. This becomes important when it comes to rural areas, where the tourist is more demanding with respect to the experiences and the destination he is looking for – in order to escape from mass tourism – and is more informed and concerned about the environment and health. This research aims to introduce Vila Viçosa in Évora, and analyze the importance of a hotel unit with equestrian activities in addition to the activities already under way in the area. For this study, it was necessary to understand the phenomenon of tourism, especially rural tourism, not just as housing but as a set of interrelated activities that may contribute to different and top quality holidays. For project-completion of this investigation, a property in Vila Viçosa was selected, in which was conducted an intervention study that aims to complement the tourist and leisure activities in the area and generate relations with the surrounding territory – not only at the village but also at the county level. It is on these premises that was proposed the creation of an Agritourism and a riding school embedded in a structure of complementary activities that the county already has, such as the Tons de Mármore route, and the creation of horseback riding in the region. Furthermore, it was considered pertinent to create a small space on the hotel property for the dissemination and exhibition of Portuguese culture through workshops on agricultural and equestrian activities in order to explore the terrain and integrate tourists on the observation of pasture. In addition to the bibliographical support presented throughout the dissertation, some analysis to the land were also carried out – through maps or trips to the site – that helped in the organization of working principles.
