A ilha do Príncipe é o reflexo de uma
ilha perdida no tempo que se acomodou e
estagnou a sua evoluir. O aparecimento da
HBD na cidade de Santo António, capital da
Ilha do Príncipe, trouxe uma significativa
melhoria a vários níveis, manifestando
até então um elevado nível de falta de
investimento, tanto educacional e cultural
como a nível de saneamento e património
edificado. Santo António é o resultado
de um processo evolutivo, onde o centro
histórico da cidade é indicativo de uma
construção colonial iniciada no século XV
que se expande para o interior da ilha de
uma forma espontânea e informal após a
independência em 1975.
A Presente proposta de projeto
final de mestrado, visa reflectir diversos
fatores, como a história, a memória, a
cultura e o modo de vida como a cidade
é habitada, para uma reestruturação
com usos contemporâneos de forma a
solucionar problemas presentes em Santo
António na sua população.
Através de uma proposta de caracter
social e cultural, foi adoptado como
princípio orientador, uma reestruturação
urbana que proporcionasse uma melhor
vinculação entre as diversas zonas da
cidade e que permitisse uma melhor
articulação da população, remetendo
sempre para uma ligação à história do
lugar.
ABSTRACT: Príncipe Island is the reflection of a place lost in time and that got comfortable in its way of living. The emerge of the HBD in the city of Santo António, capital of the island, brought with it a significant improvement to the way of living of these people, which brought to light the lack of investment done until then, reflected not only on the cultural and educational areas, but also in the areas of sanitation and built patrimony. Santo António is the result of an evolutionary process where the city’s historical center manifests a century XV colonial construction that expands itself to the interior of the island in spontaneous and informal way, after the country’s independence in 1975. This masters final project proposal, aims to transpose various factors, such as history, memory, culture and the way habitants live in the city into a restructuring with contemporary techniques in order to solve the existing problems in Santo António and on its population. Through a social and cultural proposal, it was adapted as the main orientation, a urban restructure that proposes a better connection between the different city areas and that allows for a better interaction of the islands habitants, never forgetting or leaving behind the historical nature of the place.
