The Physiotherapist's Pocket Book Essential Facts at your Fingertips is a book on physiotherapy; is subdivided in four particular areas: musculoskeletal system, neurological system, respiratory system and pharmacology. At the end of the book there is also a section of appendices which encompasses a list of abbreviations, conversions and units and laboratory values. This book is of great value for all health professionals, physiotherapy and Medicine students and also for public in general. The book's main objective is to provide quick and easy access to the theme and therefore it is written in simple style accessible to all readers. The book's translation tried to respect these same objectives of the authors. It was a complex process, since the majority of the terms were signalized only in portuguese spoken in Brazil, and for that reason, it was necessary to look up for correspondent terms in European Portuguese spoken in order to facilitate the access to the Portuguese public. The project's report shows the main translation problems which are divided in two areas: the interlinguistic one that deals with the questions concerning equivalences, loan words, false friends, scientific-technical metaphors and metonymies and the intralinguistic one that handles translation problems related to the construction of complex sentences, co-reference networks, determinants usage. A glossary was also elaborated in order to clarify scientific terminology as well as abbreviations and acronyms; a brief explanation on the differences between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese was also introduced. During the translation process, some bilingual and unilingual dictionaries were consulted, both in English and Portuguese, as well as the internet sites. Advice from health professionals played a decisive role in the translated text.
