This dissertation is set within a sociocultural context marked by the growing incidence of violence in Brazilian public schools, with particular emphasis on the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Entitled Principal, Leader, and Manager: Multifunctional Approaches to Addressing Violence in the Municipal Schools of Natal/RN, the study examines the multifaceted role of the school principal as a central figure in confronting school violence, combining administrative, pedagogical, and relational competencies. The research integrates theoretical foundations of Educational Administration (EA) with the empirical reality of municipal schools, focusing on a specific neighborhood in Natal, where the urban setting is affected by high rates of crime and drug trafficking, as reported by the local press (Agora RN, 2024; Globo News, 2024). The research employs a multiple case study methodology, with a qualitative approach and a descriptive-analytical framework. Two municipal public schools were selected as the research setting. This selection allows for a comparative analysis of management strategies and leadership practices, given their similar social contexts. Data collection included questionnaires with both open- and closed-ended questions, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation, allowing for the examination of manifestations of violence in school daily life and their frequency. The research argues that it is essential for school principals to develop the skills required to operate in contexts marked by sociocultural diversity, adopting practices that value student plurality and foster the construction of a more inclusive and peaceful school environment. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of training principals to act as mediators among the various stakeholders in the educational community, as well as the urgency of expanding institutional support and strengthening collaborative networks that underpin and enhance school management work in Brazil’s public education system.
