Considerar os problemas que se colocam à tradução literária e de modo particular, à tradução de uma narrativa de Balzac, “Les dangers de l´inconduite”, levou-nos a reflectir, na fase inicial do nosso trabalho, sobre a questão da verdade da representação realista, com implicações na configuração do texto de partida e, desse modo também, no de chegada.
Assim, numa primeira parte, abordámos uma estética do olhar em que se apoia Balzac, a fim de ver e dar a ver a sociedade da sua época. Trata-se de um olhar com incidência no presente e que tem como objectivo captar e revelar a verdadeira realidade que a Comédia Humana oculta. Assumindo-se como um historiador do presente, ao pretender persuadir e despertar o leitor para os problemas que se colocam ao mundo do seu tempo, Balzac recorre à retórica realista fundada no cânone aristotélico da mimesis para criar uma ilusão referencial. Numa segunda parte, procurámos equacionar o problema da tradução como língua da verdade, a partir da reflexão teórica. O que nos conduziu ao trabalho do tradutor que se investe na busca da verdade linguística, permitindo--nos finalmente considerar os problemas mais específicos colocados à tradução do texto nosso corpus que apresentamos neste estudo.
Abstract: To consider the problems facing the literary translation and, in particular, the translation of a Balzac’s novel, led us to think about the initial stage of our work, namely about the question of truth in realistic representation with impact on the source and target text. Therefore, we started by addressing the aesthetic look that supports Balzac´s work, in order to understand and reveal contemporary society through the author’s perspective. It is clearly an outlook focused on the present with the purpose of demonstrating the true reality behind the occult Human Comedy. Assumed as an historian of the present, Balzac intends to awake his readers to the world problems of his time. To achieve such objective, the author uses a realistic rhetoric based on the Aristotelian canon of mimesis, by building a referential illusion. The second part focuses on the study of the translation as a language of truth, a theoretical expression from Walter Benjamin’s work. By analyzing the work of the translator when aiming for a linguistic truth we can finally consider the specific translation problems in the text of our corpus presented in this work.
