De todas as tendências trazidas pela nova equação geopolítica nos espaços do Mediterrâneo sul-oriental e do Próximo Oriente, uma das mais relevantes parece corresponder à revisão das “fronteiras naturais” em função dos novos equilíbrios de força, sendo a primeira das quais a que se apoia sobre o curso do Eufrates – não por acaso, precisamente a mesma díade que os acordos Sykes-Picot tinham resgatado do seu passado pré-otomano.
Of all the trends brought about by the new geopolitical equation in the spaces of the south-eastern Mediterranean and the Near East, one of the most relevant seems to be the revision of the ‘natural borders’ according to the new balances of power, the first of which rests on the course of the Euphrates - not by chance, precisely the same dyad that the Sykes-Picot agreements had rescued from its pre-Ottoman past.
