Este trabalho tem como objectivo analisai algumas consequências económicas do envelhecimento demográfico em Portugal. Baseando-nos, essencialmente, em projecções e documentos publicados por entidades nacionais e internacionais procuramos analisar a evolução da população portuguesa nas próximas décadas e alguns impactos a nível económico e social. O envelhecimento da população apresenta um conjunto de desafios como a sustentabilidade do sistema de segurança social, o crescimento económico, o envelhecimento activo e a produtividade. Mas também representa um conjunto de oportunidades como novos mercados económicos, novas profissões e a maior tolerância social. A dissertação está dividida em três partes: na primeira parte apresentamos os aspectos metodológicos do trabalho e o enquadramento demográfico de Portugal; na segunda parte enunciamos algumas políticas correctivas da tendência demográfica e alguns conceitos na abordagem ao envelhecimento; finalmente, na terceira parte analisamos a importância das redes de suporte e alguns impactos da evolução demográfica na economia portuguesa.
The main focus of this work is to analyze some economic impacts of ageing in Portugal. Using, essentially, national and international projections and documents, we intend to analyze the population evolution in the next decades and some economic and social impacts of ageing. The demographic projections point to economic and social challenges like the social security system sustainability, economic growth, active ageing and productivity, but also provide a window of opportunities like new markets, new jobs and social tolerance. This thesis is set in three parts: first we refer to the methodological aspects of the work and then illustrate the Portuguese demographic framing; secondly, we present some corrective policies of the demographic trend and ageing concepts; third, we analyze the importance of formal and informal social networks support and finish with several ageing economic impacts.
