As fichas permitiram caracterizar a instituição, o espaço
The present study, of a descriptive nature under the theme: School-Family Relations and Environmental Resources: A case study in a school in Guinee-Bissau, aims to understand the interpretation that a group of actors in the Guinean educational system, in this case the teachers, students and parents of a school located in Bissau, make of the participation of the family in the educational process of their children. It also aims to understand what kind of strategy is developed by the school management to promote social relations between the players in the educational sector and to find out if the school management considers essential to include the family in the school activities. Finally, we will try to understand what is the impact, in the opinion of the participants, of the family involvement in the students’ school activity to improve the quality of teaching. The study was developed in Bissau at a private school that teaches from kindergarten to 12th grade. The study was based on the qualitative method with the use of semi-directed interviews and questionnaires. The records allowed to characterize the institution, the physical and human resources environment and the teachers; and the interviews collected the participants ‘opinions about the object of study’. Participated in the interviews: a) the school principal; b) a teacher, c) a parent, and d) a student. All participants answered similar questions, inspired by the four study objectives. Among the results obtained, it appears that the participants share the same idea regarding the importance of the family´s role in the schools development of their children, and that this is reinforced by the strategies adopted by the school, among them, the monthly meetings and considered the most relevant.
