Esta dissertação consiste num estudo exploratório sobre as relações dos jovens do início do século XXI com os media e sobre o impacto que as novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação têm nas suas vidas e na sua integração na sociedade. São objectivos desta investigação perceber a importância das tecnologias na vida dos alunos, compreender o modo como estes percepcionam as potencialidades das tecnologias existentes na escola e fora dela e perceber se existem diferenças entre os alunos de dois contextos socioeconómicos diferentes, na sua relação com os media. Esta investigação foi realizada com recurso a um questionário, aplicado a alunos a frequentar o 9.º ano de escolaridade de duas escolas inseridas em contextos socioeconómicos diferentes, na cidade de Castelo Branco. Os resultados obtidos com esta investigação permitem concluir que os jovens do século XXI são bastante dependentes dos media, nomeadamente, da Internet, independentemente das sua classe social e background cultural. A vida social e pessoal dos jovens de hoje, parece girar em torno dos media, constituindo parte integrante do seu quotidiano.
This dissertation is an exploratory study about the relationship of the 21st century youngpeople and the media, the impact that new information and communication technologies have in their lives and in their integration into society. The aims of this research is to analyse the role of technology in everyday life of the students, to reflect if the young perceive the potential of technology in and out of school, and see if there are any differences between students of two socio-economic status in its relationship with the media. This research was conducted using a questionnaire answered by students in 9th grade from two schools of two different socio-economic contexts in the city of Castelo Branco. The results suggest that the young of 21st century are extremely dependent on the media, particularly internet and, that there are no differences between people of different social classes in this matter. The social and personal life of the young revolves around the media as an integral part of it.
