A internacionalização das empresas portuguesas é actualmente tema de destaque, e em muitos casos, o sucesso na internacionalização é verificado. Estudar o insucesso é invulgar, mas importante para compreender os factores de sucesso. Neste sentido, o setor do calçado assume-se como merecedor de toda a nossa atenção.
Resumida a teoria relativa à internacionalização das empresas, em particular as empresas de calçado, foram estudadas as suas motivações, formas de entrada e obstáculos sentidos, por forma a apurar o comportamento destas empresas no seu processo internacional.
O descuro pelos aspectos legais, pelo registo de marcas, a falta de estudo prévio sobre o mercado de destino e a economia onde este se insere, bem como de planeamento financeiro dos investimentos, são falhas que se verificam transversais aos empresários no processo de internacionalização, podendo levar as suas empresas ao insucesso.
The internationalization of Portuguese companies is currently prominent issue, and in many cases, successful internationalization is verified. Studying failure is unusual, but important to understand the factors of success. In this sense, the footwear sector is assumed as worthy of our full attention. After reviewing the literature about the internationalization of firms, particularly footwear companies, their motivations were studied, entry forms and senses obstacles in order to determine the behavior of these companies in their international process. The negligence of the legal aspects, the registration of trademarks, the lack of previous study on the target market and the economy in which it occurs, as well as financial planning of investments, are faults that are transverse to entrepreneurs in the internationalization process, and may lead their companies to failure
