This book explores the importance of how people use the city through the spaces between its buidings, known as "public spaces" - places for collective use, shared and with relatively free access. It shows the prominence of these spaces in cities to this day to justify the need for a dedicated study, planning, management and design, as Urban design is currently defined. It also argues that this area of knowledge and activity encompasses the research, design, production and management of objects, artefacts, products and the product systems that public spaces are equipped with, given their fundamental contribution to the quality of urban life.The premises presented in this book are based on the tests taken for obtaining the title of Agregado and on the research and teaching carried out in recent years on these themes. A set of bases and principles for the design and productin of contemporary urban furniture is proposed. This content can serve as an introduction to the study of Urban Design in the field of public space equipment, contributing to education and training in Design as well as to research on the topics covered. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our role in the city we inhabit and enjoy.
