dc.description.abstractOver the years, technology has played an essential role in developing new therapeutic solutions in healthcare, namely in the area of orthopaedics. Congenital diseases associated with the lower limb are pathologies that manifest early; however, an immediate solution is not always available, therefore, orthopaedic devices, such as prostheses and orthoses, is a common practice. The development of these devices is often time-consuming, costly and lacks customisation, so there is a need to explore more accessible alternatives for developing these solutions. This work focuses on designing prototypes of an ankle and foot orthosis, with the aim of devel-oping a personalized orthosis, manufactured using 3D printing, which can be used to treat or delay surgery in patients with ankle and foot abnormalities. To achieve the ideal model, a specific clinical case was selected to test and validate the solution obtained, involving a child diagnosed with Fibular Hem-imelia. The work focused on acquiring a digital 3D model, through the digital prototyping method. To evaluate the materials selected for printing, the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was used to simulate the loads applied by the child in the model printed with the different materials. Regarding the developed solution, there were limitations associated with the evaluation of the durability of the orthosis. Several materials were tested, including TPU for the flexible component, and PLA, PETG and ABS for the rigid part. Although the developed orthosis did not entirely realise the expectations set, there are possibil-ities to obtain an orthosis capable of satisfying the needs of the patient in the selected clinical case and also becoming a viable solution for application in various cases.en
