Quando olhamos para Lisboa hoje, reconhecemos a urgente necessidade de intervenção nas diversas áreas da cidade, principalmente nas zonas ao longo do vale, que se encontram desagregadas do resto da estrutura urbana consolidada.
O Vale de Alcântara consiste, assim, numa área que devido à sua história e evolução infraestrutural, representa uma das áreas da cidade que se caracteriza pelo seu crescimento desmedido e que se foi desviando cada vez mais das suas características naturais, criando uma barreira física entre o parque Florestal do Monsanto e a restante malha da cidade, o que torna notório a necessidade de intervenção.
Neste sentido, propõe-se a renaturalização do vale de Alcântara, restaurando a natureza e trazendo a sua antiga ribeira ao de cima, definindo também um parque urbano produtivo agrícola com diferentes áreas verdes e de lazer, que reforce a memória do local e permita a interligação do mesmo com a restante estrutura da cidade, o que também trará benefícios ambientais para a mesma.
Interveio-se também à escala do bairro, em que se propõe uma frente urbana que possa ser reproduzia pelo vale, que respeite as suas pré-existências, colmatando as novas habitações, neste caso, com a Rua Maria Pia. Desta forma, para além de se requalificar toda a área do vale, prevê-se a integração de espaços públicos de permanência pelos seus bairros e a criação de um modelo de habitação que uniformiza a imagem urbana na encosta.
When we look at Lisbon today, we recognize the urgent need for intervention in many areas of the city, particularly in the areas along the valley that are segregated from the rest of the city's built-up urban structure. As a result, Alcântara Valley is a region of the city that, as a consequence of its history and infrastructural development, stands out for its unplanned growth and increasing departure from its natural characteristics. This has resulted in a physical barrier between the Parque Florestal do Monsanto and the rest of the city, making intervention necessary. In this regard, the proposal is to renaturalize the Alcântara Valley by restoring its natural beauty and bringing its ancient ribeira to the top. It also calls for the establishment of an urban agricultural production park with a variety of green spaces for recreation, which will help the valley retain its cultural identity and provide environmental benefits. Intervene also at the neighborhood scale, proposing an urban frontage that might be replicated by the valley while respecting its pre-existing structures and aligning the new residences, in this case, with Rua Maria Pia. The integration of permanent public spaces across the valley's neighborhoods and the development of a housing type that harmonizes the region's urban aesthetic are both anticipated as a result, in addition to the valley as a whole being requalified.
