A cirurgia das amígdalas ou a amigdalectomia, é um procedimento que visa a remoção das amígdalas da orofaringe. Pode ser parcial ou total, podendo ainda ter vários métodos de abordagem.
A história da cirurgia ou práticas médicas similares àquilo que se possa chamar uma amigdalectomia remonta desde 1000 a.C. na Índia. Passados três mil anos, observaram-se mudanças nesta intervenção, tanto em termos de critérios como em instrumentos cirúrgicos.
É a riqueza da história, das experiências e criações fascinantes que torna, a evolução da cirurgia das amígdalas um tema tão interessante de ser explorado e investigado.
Este trabalho baseia-se numa recolha de dados sobre o progresso da amigdalectomia, os principais intervenientes e uma comparação do passado com o presente.
Tonsillectomy is a procedure to remove the tonsils from the oropharynx. They can be partial or total removed, there can be several approaches to this procedure. The history of surgery or medical practices similar to what one might call a tonsillectomy dates back to 1000 BC in India. After three thousand years, there were changes in this intervention, both in terms of criteria and surgical instruments. It is the richness of the history, of the fascinating experiences and creations that makes the evolution of tonsil surgery such an interesting subject to be explored and investigated. This work is based on a collection of data on the progression of tonsillectomy, the protagonists and a comparison of the past with the present.
