Resumo(s)
Cloud storage services need to provide data reliability and availability. While replication provides these two properties, it requires significant storage overhead. Erasure codes can reduce this overhead while increasing reliability and availability of the stored data, as demonstrated in systems like CHARON. In collaboration with the VAWLT platform, this work focuses on improving multi-cloud storage efficiency with erasure coding techniques and Byzantine quorum systems. In particular, it proposes a novel method to distribute data across multiple cloud providers that reduces storage overhead compared to existing approaches. This method is implemented in an improved version of the CHARON protocol, which the VAWLT platform currently uses for multi-cloud storage. Finally, this work studies the state-of-the-art of erasure coding schemes and their implementation in multicloud environments, focusing on alternatives to Reed-Solomon codes for better performance and reduced storage costs.
