Desde muito cedo as frentes de água mostraram ser zonas chave para o desenvolvimento de civilizações. Estas zonas, que em tempos foram motores económicos de cidades, são hoje, em muitos casos, vazios urbanos, isolados, onde apenas reside a memória física do que outrora existiu.
Estudando as origens das frentes ribeirinhas e de todos os seus momentos, pretende-se entender qual a forma mais correta de revitalizar estes espaços.
Com especial foco no cais do Ginjal, em Almada, na evolução do seu traçado ribeirinho e da relação da cidade com o rio, o principal objetivo deste trabalho passa pela reintegração funcional deste local na cidade de Almada. O cais do Ginjal atualmente representa um fino corredor sobre o rio repleto de edifícios em ruína, onde apenas permanece a memória e a silhueta de antigas indústrias.
Propõe-se então uma revitalização do cais do Ginjal que, contrariando os fatores que o levaram ao estado devoluto em que se encontra, traga uma nova dinâmica económica, social e urbana à frente ribeirinha de Almada. Para isso é proposto um novo desenho do espaço público com espaços verdes e momentos de interação com o rio que, agregado a novos espaços de trabalho articulados com a cidade através de percursos, escadas e ligações mecânicas, devolva ao cais do Ginjal a sua inevitável ligação à cidade e ao rio.
ABSTRACT: From very early on, water fronts proved to be key areas for the development of civilizations. These areas, which were once economic engines of cities, are today, in many cases, urban, isolated voids, where only the physical memory of what once existed resides. Studying the origins of the riverside fronts and all their moments, it is intended to understand the most correct way to revitalize these spaces. With a special focus on the Ginjal quay, in Almada, the evolution of its riverside route and the relationship between the city and the river, the main objective of this investigation is the functional reintegration of this place in the city of Almada. Today, the Ginjal quay represents a thin corridor over the river filled with ruined buildings that only retains the memory and silhouette of the old industries. The objectives for this investigation focus on the revitalization of the Ginjal quay, while bringing a new economic, social and urban dynamic to the Almada riverfront. With a new design of the public space, green areas and moments of interaction with the river, combined with new work spaces articulated with the city through routes, stairs and mechanical connections, the main goal of this project is to make the Ginjal quay part of the city again.
