Resumo(s)

This study focuses on the creative process analysis of some New Portuguese Dance 1st generation choreographers, who represent the sample for this research. Overlooking the historical context of the 1st Generation New Portuguese Dance a theoretical framework was developed in order to guide disruptions and innovations of theatrical dance, cross matching it with other art forms, including twentieth century visual arts. The study is based on a comprehensive analysis of how the choreographic composition process is structured and developed in each of the choreographers, considering the organization of various types of thinking involved in the actions. It also intends to scrutinize the creative strategies used by those creators, which they call method. The method as an emerging subcategory of discourse analysis puts together questions, experiences, heuristics, strategies and choreographic composition formulas, assembling stages of the creative process, settling partial solutions for the problems that arise throughout the creative process being distinct in each of the choreographers. Based on cognitive psychology, the theoretical framework adopts the classic model of the creative process into four stages (Wallas, 1926), guiding the structure of the interview, which was the instrument used for data collection. Data treatment, through content analysis, showed through the results obtained, the interdependence between the phases of the process, the sequential change of the same structures and differences in the creative process of each of the creators analyzed, differing from the previous chosen theoretical framework. This study intends to contribute to the clarification and disclosure of the procedures used by those choreographic authors in their creative processes, whose production process is naturally hidden
