Abstract(s)
In today's world, it is imperative to understand that a reality without the existence of packaging is neither viable nor conceivable, so it is extremely important to develop means for the production, use and end of life of packaging to be more efficient and circular. It is in this context that Sociedade Ponto Verde's work is situated: acting in the management, recovery and revalue of packaging waste. The area of waste Prevention aims to reduce their impact on the environment and, for this purpose, SPV is committed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of production processes in the industry. SPV argues that the transition to a more sustainable production and consumption happens through Innovation, thus dedicating itself to developing initiatives and tools that seek to generate knowledge, provoke changes and disruptions, as well as evolution in the areas of recycling and circular economy. The Pack4Sustain project is one innovative tool that aims to support the design of sustainable packaging, that is, with less environmental impact and greater circularity, also reflecting on the reduction or replacement of materials and raw materials to be used. The main objective of the internship experience with SPV was to support the company in the follow-up tasks of the Pack4Sustain project, namely in the development of the design and usability component. This document is a report of the curricular internship developed within the scope of the Master’s in Design for Sustainability at the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa that provides a glossary of the most relevant terms in waste and residues; an account of the real context in which the SPV operates; a systematization of the work carried out in the scope of the internship, as well as the reflection of this experience; an analysis of the relationship between company practices and the circular economy; and finally, some final remarks.
