By identifying the main foundations of interaction design, we realise that there is a need to solve specific problems and issues, provided by various circumstances, through innovative and exceptional solutions that go beyond existing ones. This factor is what motivates interaction designers to design and generate new and good ideas, leading to a creative process that is sometimes continuous and uniform. In comparison, speculative design does not try to solve questions or problems, but rather embraces criticism and reflection in its creative approach and materialisation of ideas. It often explores future technological possibilities and how they will be served in society and the positive and negative impact they will bring. Building on this principle, the research seeks to explore how speculative design can challenge existing perspectives and offer new insights in the creative process of interaction designers, with the goal of generating more thought-provoking and socially conscious proposals on ethical and societal issues. To this end, a theoretical analysis of the aforementioned research areas is presented, complemented by a cognitive map that represents how the creative process in interaction design can benefit from the support of speculative design. It is hoped to understand how speculative design contributes to the development of interactive projects and supports professionals and academics during this process. And thus, prove that through the benefits that speculative design provides, it is possible to exercise a more fluid, communicative and conscious practice of interaction design.
