Considerando a reciprocidade enquanto
No entanto, as relações
Adolescence is a period with high developmental potential for evolution and contribution to society. However, this age group is one with the highest levels of poverty and social exclusion in Portugal. Considering reciprocity as a key process to promote well-being and social justice, alongside with the growing number of studies on sport and its potential to promote development and social inclusion, the aim of this study, based on a systemic lens, is to deepen the existing knowledge on the relations and experiences of youth and families from poverty contexts that take part in sports for inclusioon programs. Using a thematic analysis with a mixed qualitative methodology (interviews, documents analysis, observation and informal conversations), data has been collected from youth, parents and professionals involved in all three programs. The results suggest sport as vehicle that enhances social inclusion and the acquisition of competences transferable to other contexts. Plus, relations appear to be central regarding the restorative experience of being involved in a program in which are promoted life goals as well as a sense of competence, belonging, trust, willingness to give back, deconstruction of labels and construction of new meanings. The professional’s approach is portrayed as supportive, based on rules and focused on strengths, that gradually allow a sharing and/or transference of power to youth, encouraging their involvement, autonomy and collaboration. Considering the multisystemic influences, guidelines for future studies and for practice are suggested, namely, as to public policies that enhance the sustainability of similar programs.
