Este estudo analisa as transformações ocorridas no seio da comunidade judaica em Marrocos após o século XV, centrando-se nas interações entre os judeus autóctones (toshavim) e os judeus expulsos da Península Ibérica (megorashim), na sequência dos decretos de expulsão promulgados em 1492 e 1496. A investigação procura compreender de que modo estas interações influenciaram a reconfiguração da estrutura social, económica e cultural da comunidade judaica, destacando as tensões, os processos de integração e a reconstrução da identidade coletiva. A abordagem adotada contempla uma análise comparativa de três regiões principais — o norte, o centro e o sul de Marrocos — considerando os distintos contextos políticos (domínio islâmico, domínio cristão e territórios disputados). O estudo incide, ainda, sobre os papéis económicos, políticos e intelectuais desempenhados por estas comunidades, bem como sobre as suas relações com as autoridades governantes e as políticas que moldaram as suas condições de vida. Recorrendo a metodologias de natureza histórica, analítica e indutiva, esta dissertação visa contribuir para um entendimento mais aprofundado das dinâmicas de mudança social e cultural no seio da comunidade judaica marroquina, evidenciando o impacto das interações culturais na construção identitária num contexto de profundas transformações políticas.
This study examines the transformations that took place within the Jewish community in Morocco after the 15th century, focusing on the interactions between the native Jews (toshavim) and the Jews expelled from the Iberian Peninsula (megorashim) following the expulsion decrees of 1492 and 1496. The research seeks to understand how these interactions influenced the restructuring of the Jewish community’s social, economic, and cultural fabric, highlighting the tensions, integration processes, and the reconstruction of collective identity. The approach adopted involves a comparative analysis of three main regions—northern, central, and southern Morocco—taking into account the diverse political contexts (Islamic rule, Christian rule, and contested territories). The study further explores the economic, political, and intellectual roles played by these communities, as well as their relationships with governing authorities and the policies that shaped their living conditions. Drawing on historical, analytical, and inductive methodologies, this dissertation aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of social and cultural change within the Moroccan Jewish community, shedding light on the impact of cultural interactions in shaping communal identity amidst profound political transformations.
