Considering the value of the natural surroundings and the historical memory of the site, the integration of the architecture with the terrain was explored in a harmonious way. The project is located in the 8th Battery of Albarquel, in Setúbal, a military site, currently deactivated, situated at a strategic point overlooking the Sado River and the Arrábida Natural Park. The project's excavated architecture allows it to relate to its surroundings, creating a link between the built and the natural. This type of architecture minimizes the visual impact, drawing a continuity from the terrain and creating a harmonious connection with the surroundings. The introduction of natural light, with the use of strategic openings, allows light to enter throughout the day, establishing a relationship with the outside. Natural light illuminates the spaces, creating a interaction of light and shadow that transforms the perception of the environments, providing unique sensory experiences. This project suggest a new interpretation of the area, valuing both the natural and historical contexts, through the re-signification of the space. The proposal connects the visitors with the site, linking the natural surroundings and the memory of the 8th Battery of Albarquel. The project aims to use excavated architecture to exploit the potential of the land without interfering with the surrounding landscape.
