A água é um elemento essencial para a vida do Ser Humano, sendo também um recurso fundamental para o desenvolvimento do planeta. Esta, simboliza purificação, renovação e equilíbrio, sendo vital para a ocupação territorial, práticas culturais, religiosas e termais, destacando-se pelas suas propriedades curativas. Setúbal, desde a ocupação romana até aos dias de hoje, evoluiu como um importante centro económico, cultural e urbano, destacando-se pela pesca, sal, comércio e pela integração harmoniosa entre o espaço urbano e os elementos naturais que a rodeiam, como o estuário do Sado e a Serra da Arrábida, equilibrando o desenvolvimento da sustentabilidade ambiental e a preservação do património natural. A 8ª Bateria de Albarquel, devido à sua localização privilegiada sobre as margens do Rio Sado, é um local que permite a utilização desta fonte natural, isto é, da água com as suas caraterísticas muito próprias. Assim, na proposta que se apresenta, a intervenção urbana passa pela revitalização de toda a zona, pelo que é fundamental considerar a melhor abordagem para integrar o objeto arquitetónico na paisagem existente, preservando o local e requalificando-o, atribuindo uma nova função à 8ª Bateria de Albarquel. Considerando ainda a sua localização reservada e os acessos reduzidos, este local tem o potencial para a criação de um espaço termal que privilegia a ligação com água e a integração com a paisagem.
Water is an essential element for human life and a fundamental resource for the development of the planet. It symbolizes purification, renewal, and balance, being vital for territorial occupation, cultural, religious, and thermal practices, and standing out for its healing properties. Setúbal, from Roman occupation to the present day, has evolved as an important economic, cultural, and urban center, distinguished by fishing, salt production, commerce, and the harmonious integration between urban space and the surrounding natural elements, such as the Sado Estuary and the Arrábida Mountain Range, balancing sustainable environmental development with the preservation of natural heritage. The 8th Battery of Albarquel, due to its privileged location overlooking the banks of the Sado River, is a site that allows for the use of this natural resource—water, with its unique characteristics. Thus, in the presented proposal, the urban intervention involves the revitalization of the entire area, making it essential to consider the best approach to integrate the architectural object into the existing landscape, preserving and requalifying the site by assigning a new function to the 8th Battery of Albarquel. Given its secluded location and limited access, this site holds the potential for the creation of a thermal space that prioritizes a connection with water and integration with the landscape.
