The current study establishes as the main objective, the exploration of the relationship between the depressive personality dimension and Creativity, in the general adult population, whose particular attributes and lifepaths allow them to be distinguishable from lower levels of Creativity expression, hence the creation of two groups: Artists group (A) and Non-Artists group (NA). The specific objectives are as follow: (1) to analyse the relationship between NEO-FFI personality traits and the total DTI depressive dimension, in each group; (2) to analyse the NEO-FFI personality traits and the DTI depressive dimensions, median differences; (3) to explore which of the NEO-FFI personality traits are able to predict the DTI depressive dimensions, in both groups. The sample: (1) A group, 34 participants (M = 27.35 anos; DP = 6.49 anos); (2) NA group, 50 participants (M = 28.78 anos; DP = 6.96 anos). Two self-report instruments were applied: the NEO-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) and the Depressive Traits Inventory, abbreviated version (DTI). The results show that, the relation between the neuroticism trait and the total DTI dimension, exhibits a far stronger correlation in the A group (r = .77; p < .01), than in the NA group (r = .67; p < .01); openness and conscientiousness are two of the five traits that exhibit significant statistical median differences (F = 26.59; p =.001; e F = 5.67; p =.02, respectively), and among the six depressive dimensions, only factors of inhibitory depression (F = 6.49; p =.01), failure depression (F = 4.09; p =.05), and relational depression (F = 5.07; p =.03), display significant statistical median differences, and only for factor of inhibitory depression are there lower median levels for the A group; and lastly, only for factor of relational depression there can be found any differences between groups when it comes to which of the NEO-FFI personality traits can predict the depressive dimensions: neuroticism (β = .35; p = .001) and extroversion (β = .27; p = .001), for the A group; and neuroticism (β = .67; p = .001) and openness (β = .33; p = .001), for the NA group. Some future studies are proposed, with the intend to better comprehend the relationship between the depressive personality dimension and Creativity.
