Low-density regions in Portugal, far from major urban centers, suffer from economic centralization, generating problems such as depopulation, loss of services and infrastructural decay. This dissertation focuses on the town of Mira de Aire, whose industrial history and subsequent decline mirror the impact of globalization and industrial obsolescence on rural communities. With the closure of its textile factories, Mira de Aire went from a productive center to a declining village. This work examines the reasons and consequences of its abandonment, proposing revitalization methods that promote a revaluation of the abandoned spaces and infrastructures. In addition, it proposes decentralization and resilience solutions that could benefit both Mira de Aire and other rural territories. The structure of the dissertation follows a chronological line, addressing Mira de Aire's evolution, heyday, crisis and possible paths for the future.
