Resumo(s)
Na presente dissertação, propõe-se uma reflexão sobre a forma
como a sociedade atual lida com a morte. Um olhar crítico para a História
das Civilizações, não nos deixa qualquer dúvida, sempre existiu uma forte
ligação entre a arquitetura e a morte. Nos dias de hoje, o cemitério representa
um local com uma carga negativa e a celebração do funeral deixou
de ser o que era em tempos, passando para um plano de fundo.
No que diz respeito à cultura ocidental, nas últimas décadas, a prática
da cremação tem vindo a consolidar-se como uma nova e mais expressiva
tipologia da celebração da morte. De uma proibição total por razões
religiosas, até à sua aceitação, a cremação, parece-me ser, provavelmente
a prática mais comum nos próximos anos, também dentro dos
grupos cristãos.
Os cemitérios são vistos como locais distantes e longe da vida quotidiana.
Devido à falta de articulação arquitetónica do crematório com o
cemitério e com a cidade, nota-se que não existe contacto com o morto e
esta forma não tem, consequentemente, favorecido, aos vivos, a consciência
sobre a morte. Existe uma oportunidade no desenvolvimento da arquitetura
funerária, especialmente nos crematórios, que estão associados
maioritariamente a edifícios pragmáticos, com pouca espiritualidade e relativamente
banais. O objetivo deste trabalho é, justamente, repensar a tipologia
do cemitério com crematório, permitindo recuperar a qualidade espiritual
e reintroduzir a cerimónia como um aspeto essencial.
Este projecto pretende transformar a ideia de cemitério sombrio
numa experiência natural, simples e profunda, através de uma série de
elementos naturais que exploram a Luz e a Sombra. A intenção é procurar
uma resposta arquitectónica que dignifique as homenagens diárias prestadas
nestes espaços. É uma busca pela aceitação da mortalidade e o ciclo
da vida natural da vida e da morte. Por isso a proposta procura um espaço
onde as pessoas possam sentir a presença espiritual
ABSTRACT: In the following dissertation, a reflection is proposed on how the present society deals with death. A critical look at the History of Civilizations, leaves us no doubt, there has always been a strong connection between architecture and death. Nowadays, the cemetery represents a place with a negative charge and the celebration of the funeral ceased to be what it used to be. As far as western culture is concerned, in the last decades, the practice of cremation has become consolidated as a new and more expressive typology of the celebration of death. From a total prohibition, for religious reasons, until its acceptance, cremation, seems to be, probably the most common practice in the next years, also within the Christian groups. The cemeteries are seen as far away from everyday life. Due to the lack of architectural articulation of the crematorium with the cemetery and the city, it is noted that there is no contact with the dead and this form has not, consequently, favored the living consciousness of death. There is an opportunity in the development of funerary architecture, especially in crematoria, which are mostly associated with pragmatic buildings, with little spirituality and relatively banal. The purpose of this work is precisely to rethink the typology of the cemetery with crematorium, allowing to recover the spiritual quality and reintroduce the ceremony as an essential aspect. This project aims to transform the idea of a dark cemetery into a natural experience, simple and profound, through a series of natural elements that explore Light and Shadow. The intention is to look for an architectural response that dignifies the daily honors given in these spaces. It is a search for acceptance of mortality and the natural life cycle of life and death. That is why the proposal seeks a space where people can feel the spiritual presence.
