Este trabalho tem como foco a análise comparativa dos romances As Meninas, publicado primeiramente em 1973, pela autora brasileira Lygia Fagundes Telles, e Os Armários Vazios, que teve a sua primeira publicação em 1966 e foi escrito pela autora portuguesa Maria Judite de Carvalho. O objetivo principal desta dissertação é traçar uma análise literária dos romances selecionados com base nos Estudos da Memória e nos Estudos de Gênero, de forma a propor uma intersecção entre essas duas abordagens. A comparação é proposta a partir de aproximações entre as protagonistas dos romances, que em alguma dimensão constituem os processos de rememoração de forma associada ao gênero. Além disso, como enquadramento teórico-metodológico, tem-se os estudos de Judith Butler (2018 e 2014), para teorizar o aspecto do gênero que cruzarei com os pressupostos teóricos de Pierre Nora (2012), Jeanne Marie Gagnebin (2018), Maurice Halbwachs (1990), Jan Assmann (2016) e Aleida Assmann (2011) para desenvolver acerca dos Estudos da Memória. Ademais, os estudos de Raquel Sabino (2024), Regina Dalcastagnè (1996), Isabel Cristina Rodrigues (2020) e Maria Manuel Lisboa (1996) acerca das obras e das autoras analisadas neste trabalho também serão mencionados e estudados. Por fim, conclui-se que os romances de Lygia Fagundes Telles e Maria Judite de Carvalho representam as esferas da memória e do gênero de forma interseccionada, além de tratarem de temas relevantes para tais campos de estudo, como a solidão, o trauma, o envelhecimento e o esquecimento. Dessa forma, as autoras, por meio de metáforas e criações estéticas, representam as personagens do gênero feminino diante de suas rememorações do passado, gerando, assim, possíveis aproximações e distanciamentos nas representações.
This work focuses on the comparative analysis of the novels As Meninas, first published in 1973 by the Brazilian author Lygia Fagundes Telles, and Os Armários Vazios, first published in 1966 by the Portuguese author Maria Judite de Carvalho. The main objective of this dissertation is to conduct a literary analysis of the selected novels based on Memory Studies and Gender Studies, proposing an intersection between these two approaches. The comparison is proposed through the similarities between the protagonists of the novels, who in some way embody the processes of recollection in association with gender. Additionally, the theoretical-methodological framework includes Butler’s studies (2018 and 2014) to theorize the aspect of gender, intersecting with the theoretical assumptions of Pierre Nora (2012), Jeanne Marie Gagnebin (2018), Maurice Halbwachs (1990), Jan Assmann (2016), and Aleida Assmann (2011) to investigate Memory Studies. Furthermore, the studies of Raquel Sabino (2024), Regina Dalcastagnè (1996), Isabel Cristina Rodrigues (2020), and Maria Manuel Lisboa (1996) on the works and authors analyzed in this research will also be mentioned and studied. Finally, it is concluded that the novels by Lygia Fagundes Telles and Maria Judite de Carvalho represent the realms of memory and gender in an intersected manner, while addressing relevant themes for these fields of study, such as loneliness, trauma, aging, and forgetting. Thus, the authors, through metaphors and aesthetic creations, depict female characters in their recollections of the past, thereby generating possible similarities and differences in their representations.
