A autorregulação
Family functioning has been associated to the mental welfare and parents constitute themselves as a main part in emotional regulation, contributing to promote the development in children and teenagers (Yap, Allen, & Sheeber, 2007). These two factors have been appointed by literature as relevant to the growth of anxiety and depression in kids and adolescents (Silk, Steinberg, & Morris, 2003), however, until now, there are no published studies who look into the relationship between family functioning, emotional self-regulation and child depression and anxiety. Therefore the present study intends to evaluate the relationship between all those variables. The sample was made of 151 children and teenagers from 3rd to 9th grads and their progenitors. The research involved filled out questionnaires. The inquiries of parents evaluate estimate socio-demographic features, family functioning, and emotional regulation. The questionnaires of children evaluate auto-regulation, behavior, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. The results showed that difficulties within family functioning have a negative relationship with self-regulation in children and in parents. Children’s self-regulation is associated to the symptomatology of anxiety and depression, and the same is not seen in parental self-regulation. The female youths showed higher averages in anxious and depressive symptomatology. Regards the parental self-regulation, both mothers and fathers appear to have similar levels of self-regulation. Thereby the present study provides to the literature the difficulties of family functioning and emotional regulation in anxious and depressive symptomatology in children.
