| dc.description.abstract | As incubadoras têm como finalidade ajudar as empresas recém-criadas a sobreviverem nos seus primeiros anos. Elas encorajam o empreendedorismo ao converterem uma ideia num negócio sustentável. Para o realizarem, as incubadoras facilitam o acesso a uma variedade de recursos, serviços e redes de contactos. Este estudo pretende compreender o que leva uma empresa a ser incubada e qual a sua perceção acerca da incubação. Deste modo, este estudo contribui para a literatura ao analisar quais são os benefícios da incubação para as novas empresas, principalmente no que toca aos recursos, serviços, redes e probabilidade de sobrevivência. Para efeitos desta investigação, recolhemos dados através de um questionário enviado a 259 empresas incubadas na região de Lisboa. A nossa amostra é composta por 50 empresas incubadas distribuídas por dez incubadoras. Os nossos resultados sugerem que a incubação aumenta a probabilidade de sobrevivência para empresas mais jovens, tecnológicas e fisicamente incubadas. O mesmo acontece para equipas maiores com uma maior percentagem de mulheres, uma maior percentagem de fundadores mais jovens e uma maior percentagem de fundadores com menos educação. Os modelos de regressão utilizados indicam que as novas empresas criadas por uma maior percentagem de mulheres, de fundadores com idade média e de equipas com menos educação, assim como, empresas não tecnológicas com mais empregados iniciais, atribuem uma maior importância à maioria dos benefícios fornecidos pela incubadora. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of incubators is to help start-ups to survive in their early years. They encourage entrepreneurship by converting an idea into a sustainable business. In order to accomplish this, incubators provide access to a range of resources, services and networks of contacts. This study intends to understand what leads a company to be incubated and what is its perception about incubation. Thus, this study contributes to the literature by analysing which are the benefits of incubation for start-ups, mainly in terms of resources, services, networks and probability of survival. For the purposes of this investigation, we gather data through a questionnaire sent to 259 incubated firms in the Lisbon region. Our sample is composed by 50 incubated start-ups located in ten incubators. Our results suggest that incubation increases the probability of survival for younger, technological and physically incubated start-ups. The same happens for larger teams with higher percentage of women, higher percentage of younger founders and higher percentage of less educated founders. The regression models used indicate that start-ups founded by a higher percentage of women, of middle age founders and of less educated teams, as well as, non-technological start-ups with more initial employees, attribute a greater importance to the majority of the benefits provided by the incubator. | pt_PT |
