- Regra do jogo: uma linguagem da obraPublication . Romãozinho, Ana; Serra, Rui Alexandre Rosa GrinchoThe following study, conveys the needs, of a project that unfolds itself onto two types of mutually symbiotic research. The first one is of a practical nature, that intales my work production - not only, physical, visual and touchable work but also audible work that demands a theoretical counterpart. Unfolding into references, thematic motives, it drives me to write about the language and its framework, and above it all, the way that language, like a game, can be played, through a set of rules. The later imposition, deserves vital importance, for it’s typical of human behaviour, that so much evolution and expression underwent, throughout the history of, culture and civilization, and focusing on the way it can take artistic shape and its usage under a given creator’s hands. This analysis features the rule, it’s transgressions, the freedom, and its role-paly through art, as a construction and an escape. On a last instance I recall, the littleness that goes with board games, without foregoing its ever present power to depict our world, another place, and even ourselves
- Three chapters in the history of femicidePublication . Madeira, Pedro Daniel Gomes; Figueiredo, João R.; Feijó, António M.This dissertation describes the genesis of the idea of femicide in a period of English and American Letters, the last decade of the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century, in which patriarchal values and constructions were entering a crisis which resulted in the revision of the idea of gender—in a way, that was the period in which the concept of gender was coded. In the first chapter, I look at the way the term femicide was first given currency in the English language in 1827 through Robert Macnish’s The Confessions of an Unexecuted Femicide, a fiction disguised as a true story, and how it spawned a short-lived literary sub-genre. In the second chapter, I examine Poe’s reworking of the femicide story, and to the ways in which he has drawn attention to its Gothic roots. Finally, in the third chapter, I offer a reading of Memoirs of the Author of ‘A Vindication of the Rights of Woman,’ in which I argue that Godwin’s “sentimentalised” portrait of Mary Wollstonecraft, and by extension of the female intellectual, constitutes an implicit refutation of her ideas, and therefore can be profitably compared to the portraits Poe’s femicide narrators make of Morella and Ligeia in the tales named after them.
- A contribution to the knowledge of the bryophytes of the Cape Verde Islands, with an emphasis on Santo Antão and São VicentePublication . Garcia, César; Sérgio, Cecília; Martins, Anabela; Rodrigues, Ana S. B.; Sim-Sim, ManuelaIntroduction. The Cape Verdean bryophyte flora comprises representatives of various floristic elements including Afrotropical, Neotropical, Mediterranean and Asiatic elements, together with some endemic taxa. However, the knowledge of Cape Verdean bryophytes lags far behind that of vascular plants. This study contributes to increase the knowledge of bryophytes in the Cape Verde archipelagos. Methods. A total of seven sites were sampled during 2016 in the Cape Verde archipelago, one on São Vicente and six on Santo Antão. Results and conclusions. Five species are reported new to Cape Verde, Cheilolejeunea rigidula (Nees ex Mont.) R.M.Schust., Riccia trabutiana Steph., Lewinskya acuminata (H.Philib.) F.Lara, Garilleti & Goffinet, Lindbergia patentifolia Dixon and Timmiella cameruniae Broth. The presence of Porella canariensis (F.Weber) Underw in the archipelago is also confirmed. Additionally, Frullania spongiosa Steph., Bryum dichotomum Hedw., Cryptoleptodon longisetus (Mont.) Enroth and Didymodon hastatus(Mitt.) R.H.Zander are reported for the first time from Santo Antão island. Cheilolejeunea rigidula, Lindbergia patentifolia and Timmiella cameruniae are new to Macaronesia and a description of the last taxon is presented.
