The realization of this theoretical-practical work consists of the conservation and restoration intervention of the original plaster model of the 1st monument to Doctor Sousa Martins, by Aleixo Queiroz Ribeiro. This work belongs to the Military Museum of Lisbon and served to embody the bronze statue that was praised in 1900, in Campo de Mártires da Pátria, in Lisbon. As soon as the statue was unveiled, a wave of criticism arose. Unless public who is such a common figure and was vulgar public. Quickly so that various works were removed from newspapers. In this way, the work was eventually dismantled, and the bronze was melted. A few years later, a second proposal was made, this time by the sculptor Costa Mota (uncle), where, to this day, Doctor Sousa Martins stands at the top of the monument. With the devaluation of the work, what ended up being forgotten and stored in a military warehouse is not visible and harmful to the preservation of the work. It should be noted that this plaster model is unique, and there is no knowledge of the existence of replicas. With a view to solving intervention a, the following project work aims not to achieve the physical and aesthetic stability of the original plaster model of the statue of Sousa Martins. It started with a bibliographic survey in order to contextualize a sculpture under study and later a Conservation and Restoration intervention was carried out. The intervention was carried out in a room in the New Spaces of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, and the plaster model was transported from Entroncamento to Lisbon. It is intended that after the end of this project, the work will be exposed to the public, at the Military Museum of Lisbon, so that it can have recognition again after appreciations in the past
