O arquivo pessoal de Manuel Tito de Morais e a sua vida : análise e tratamento arquivístico da informação

Dentro do panorama da Ciência da Informação, a Arquivística tomou protagonismo no que concerne em fazer face à gestão documental nos arquivos. Em particular, no caso dos arquivos pessoais, verifica-se uma falta de compreensão relativamente aos seus contextos de produção e ao seu potencial informacional, o que abriu caminho para este estudo em que se explora o tratamento arquivístico da informação presente no arquivo pessoal de Manuel Tito de Morais, um político da ala socialista em Portugal.
O presente relatório de estágio revolve em volta deste arquivo pessoal, assente em num objetivo geral: o estudo e análise do arquivo pessoal de Manuel Tito de Morais para a reconstrução dos eventos da sua vida para dar resposta à pergunta de partida que deu início a esta investigação: “Através do estudo do arquivo pessoal de Manuel Tito de Morais, que mais informação se pode retirar sobre vários eventos da sua vida?”. A partir destes objetivos, surgiram mais tarefas no formato dos objetivos específicos como: a realização de uma análise documental no arquivo pessoal, a validação dos dados resultantes desta análise documental com apoio da bibliografia encontrada e a conceção a partir destes resultados, de uma proposta de reconstrução da vida de Manuel Tito de Morais no formato de um estudo biográfico e a produção de instrumentos sinópticos (um quadro cronológico) através deste estudo. Entre estes, outros objetivos específicos passaram por fazer uma verificação ao quadro de classificação pré-existente enquanto uma representação de toda a informação presente no fundo documental, fundamentar o uso destes arquivos pessoais como fontes de informação importantes através da sua organização e descrição, por último, a análise de como os arquivos pessoais são marcados pelas memórias individuais dos produtores/detentores, de que forma são representadas e perceber que contributo podem trazer à memória coletiva.
Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com um paradigma interpretativo e utilizando como métodos de recolha de dados, a revisão de literatura e a investigação documental do arquivo pessoal em estudo. O trabalho realizado consistiu no estudo da vida do detentor para melhor se compreender o arquivo e o seu contexto de produção, além de facilitar uma visão geral sobre a organização deste fundo. Depois, no tratamento arquivístico para o estudo do arquivo pessoal em si, para a análise e tratamento da informação que ajuda a refletir na história política portuguesa do século XX como a conhecemos atualmente.
Within the Information Science, archival science has taken a leading role in terms of dealing with management of records in archives. In particular, in the case of personal archives, there is a lack of understanding concerning their production contexts and their informational potential, which paved the way for this study which explores the archival processing of the information present in the personal archive of Manuel Tito de Morais, a socialist politician in Portugal. The present report revolves around this personal archive, based on one general objective: the study and the analysis of the personal archive of Manuel Tito de Morais to reconstruct his life to answer the question of starting point for this investigation: “Through the study of the personal archive of Manuel Tito de Morais, what more information could be gathered concerning the various events in his life?”. From these objectives, more tasks were derived in the format of specific objectives such as carrying out a documental analysis in the personal archive, the validation of the data resulting from this document analysis with the support of the bibliography found and the conception from these results, of a proposal of reconstitution of the life of Manuel Tito de Morais in the format of a biographical study and the production of synoptic instruments (a chronological table) through of this study. Among these, other specific objectives were to carry out a verification of the pre-existing classification table as a representation of the entire information present in the documentary background, ground the use of these personal archives as important sources of information through their organization and description and finally, the analysis of how personal archives are marked by the individual memories of the producers/holders, in what way they are represented and realize what contribution it can bring to the collective memory. This work was developed with an interpretative paradigm and using as data collection methods were transposed in the literature revision and the documentary investigation of the personal archive in study. The work carried out consisted of studying the life of the holder to better understand the archive and its production context, in addition to providing an overview of the organization of this archive. Then, in its archival processing for the study of the personal archive itself, for the analysis and processing of information that helps to ponder on the Portuguese political history of the 20th century as we know it today.
