O desenvolvimento dos túmulos reais egípcios durante a Época Arcaica foi o resultado direto do surgimento da figura do rei e do progressivo crescimento do seu poder, assim como da consolidação do mesmo como personagem crucial para a manutenção da ordem cósmica. Sendo raras as fontes escritas produzidas na Época Arcaica, os túmulos reais oferecem, através do simbolismo da sua estrutura, localização, e espólio, um reflexo da natureza da ideologia real e da dimensão do poder do monarca.
Apesar da importância dos túmulos reais para compreender a evolução da figura do rei-Hórus e da ideologia real ao longo da Época Arcaica, a relação entre esses três elementos não tem sido explorada aprofundadamente pela literatura disponível. Tendo como principal, mas não exclusivo, objeto de estudo os túmulos reais tinitas e os túmulos de elite nagadianos, procuramos com esta dissertação analisar o desenvolvimento tanto da ideologia real como da figura do rei-Hórus desde as suas origens na cultura de Nagada II até ao final da II dinastia. Será necessário, portanto, explorar o contexto de origem e a natureza da monarquia egípcia, assim como compreender de que modo surgiram os elementos da figura do rei-Hórus e os seus principais símbolos de poder que perduraram durante a maior parte da civilização egípcia.
The development of the Egyptian royal tombs during the Archaic Period was the direct result of the emergence of the figure of the king and the progressive growth of his power, as well as the consolidation of the king as a crucial character for the maintenance of cosmic order. Given the scarcity of written sources produced in the Archaic Period, the royal tombs are, through the symbolism of their structure, location, and contents, a reflection of the nature of the royal ideology and the dimension of the monarch's power. Despite the importance of royal tombs in understanding the evolution of the Horus-king figure and royal ideology throughout the Archaic Period, the relationship between these three elements has not been explored in depth in the available literature. Having as main, but not exclusive, object of study the Tinite royal tombs and the Nagada elite tombs, with this dissertation we seek to analyze the development of both the royal ideology and the figure of the King-Horus from its origins in the culture of Nagada II until the end of the II dynasty. It will be necessary, therefore, to explore the context of origin and the nature of the Egyptian monarchy, as well as understanding the emergence of the elements of the figure of the Horus-king and its main symbols of power that lasted during most of the Egyptian civilization.
