A metodologia “Video- Reflexive Ethnography”
The present experimental study investigated whether the phenomenon of passivity could be observed in individuals in the context of Complex Leadership. For this we used the observation of non-verbal communication in video images, which were recorded during an experience of team dynamics. The Video-Reflexive Ethnography methodology allowed to film teams, in the execution of a virtual SimCity city governance task, and to capture gestures, body postures and books, non-verbal indicators of passivity, through the use of a table of observation pre-made and adapted from Navarro (2015). The Study sample consisted of 40 participants, mostly students. According to the results obtained, the elements identified as passive by their team showed a pattern of common non-verbal behaviors among them, namely in the recollection of body posture, in the direction of the trunk towards the opposite side of the colleagues, and in stiffness and staticity of micro-expressions. In addition, the participants manifested a submissive passivity (e.g.: touch face and forehead), in detriment of the authoritarian (e.g. hands in dome position). This study, combining the subjective component of the non-verbal component with the objectivity of the visuals on the research question, in an innovative methodology, provided the creation of a framework of non-verbal behavior about the liabilities, with potential to be improved in the future in several intervention areas.
