Diversos estudos científicos demonstram que ocorre uma diminuição no desempenho escolar dos alunos devido a reduzida qualidade de ar interior e, aos muitos períodos em que a temperatura interior das salas de aula se encontra fora do intervalo de conforto. Outros estudos revelam ainda que a qualidade do ar na generalidade das salas de aula das escolas públicas Portuguesas é deficiente. Neste trabalho serão estudados diferentes sistemas de ventilação e climatização que permitem atingir condições de conforto interior e qualidade do ar, de acordo com a norma europeia e com a legislação nacional. Numa primeira fase, este estudo incide, numa análise custo benefício de implementação, manutenção e utilização dos sistemas. São avaliadas alternativas de optimização energética de sistemas e de envolvente térmica, bem como a implementação de sistemas de aproveitamento de energia renovável como forma de minorar os custos. Numa segunda fase, partindo de uma relação quantitativa entre desempenho escolar dos alunos e caudal de ar novo insuflado nos espaços lectivos quantifica-se o potencial aumento de desempenho escolar devido à utilização de sistemas de ventilação e climatização que garantem as condições de conforto. Esta análise exploratória permitiu uma extensão do conceito custo benefício, quantificando o impacto global dos sistemas energéticos no rendimento do processo educativo.
Several scientific studies show that there is a decrease in student’s performance due to the low indoor air quality and indoor temperatures outside the comfortable range. Other studies also show that the air quality in most of the class rooms in Portuguese public schools is inadequate. This work aims to study different ventilation and air conditioning systems that allow for indoor comfort and air quality, in accordance with current legislation. In a first stage, this study focused on a cost benefit analysis of implementation, maintenance and use of the systems. Alternatives for the energy optimization of the systems and of the buildings’ thermal [enclosure/envelope], as well as the implementation of renewable energy systems as a mean to reduce the costs are also assessed. In a second stage, using a quantitative relation between student performance and fresh air flow, this study assessed the increase in performance due to the use of ventilation and air conditioning systems that ensure comfort conditions. This exploratory analysis allowed for an extension of the cost benefit approach to the overall cost and effect of indoor climate control systems on the learning process.
