O papel do farmacêutico em Oncologia

Abstract

A doença oncológica é uma das principais causas de morte a nível mundial, exigindo tratamentos complexos e com impacto no doente. Os efeitos adversos e os erros de medicação assumem especial importância em oncologia, devido à elevada toxicidade dos fármacos citostáticos e à sua estreita margem terapêutica. Foi demonstrado o benefício da colaboração de uma equipa multidisciplinar na abordagem à terapêutica oncológica, sendo o farmacêutico um elemento fundamental da mesma. O principal papel do farmacêutico, em onco-farmácia, é contribuir para uma melhoria da adequação da terapêutica, para um aumento da efetividade da mesma e para a diminuição da ocorrência de efeitos adversos e erros de medicação. Os tratamentos oncológicos caracterizam-se pela sua elevada toxicidade para o doente, e também, pelo elevado custo económico que lhe está associado. O farmacêutico, como especialista do medicamento, possui conhecimentos aprofundados e precisos sobre o mesmo, garante a sua boa utilização, certificando-se também, que existe uma relação positiva entre o custo-benefício da terapêutica. Existe uma tendência para aumentarem o número de farmacêuticos especialistas na área da onco-farmácia, devido ao número crescente de doentes e à extrema importância da adequação e eficácia da terapêutica.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, requiring complex and patient-impacted treatments. Adverse effects and medication errors are particularly important in oncology due to the high toxicity of cytostatics and their narrow therapeutic margin. The benefit of the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team in the approach to cancer therapy has been demonstrated, with the pharmacist being a fundamental element of it. The key role of the pharmacist, in onco-pharmacy, is to contribute for an improvement in the adequacy of therapy, to provide an increase in effectiveness and a decrease in the occurrence of adverse effects and medication errors. Cancer treatments are characterized by their high toxicity to the patient, and, by the high economic cost that is associated. The pharmacist is the drug specialist, and has in-depth and precise knowledge about the same, ensuring its appropriate use, and also making sure that there is a positive relationship between the cost-benefit of the therapy. There is a trend to increase the number of pharmacists in the onco-pharmacy area, due to the increasing number of patients and the extreme importance of the suitability and efficacy of the therapy.
