A seguinte dissertação
editor no original.
In 1960, the Brazilian author Carolina Maria de Jesus gained worldwide recognition after publishing her first book Child of the Dark, which denounced the poor living conditions in the "favelas" â a reality little known at the time. The book reproduced journals written by the author in two separate periods: 1955 and between 1958 and 1960. The journal's editor was Audalio Dantas, known as the writer's discoverer while she was still living in the CanindĂ© slums, located in SĂŁo Paulo. The following dissertation aims to analyze the editorial process of the work in order to justify the need for a conservative transcription protocol. Its ultimate goal is to present a genetic edition of one of the manuscripts of the book, the Caderno 11, located in the Brazilian National Library (47, GAV1, 07), and to trace the author's writing process, reflecting upon the real dimension of the publisher's influence on the original.
