Abstract(s)
Nesta dissertação procuraremos estudar, em algumas obras selecionadas de Eça de Queiroz, nomeadamente o conto “Um Dia de Chuva” e os romances A Cidade e as Serras, Os Maias e O Primo Bazilio, a representação da mulher na obra queirosiana e a sua íntima ligação ao casamento e correspondentes papéis sociais de esposa e mãe. Tentaremos decifrar até que ponto Eça avalia as suas personagens femininas através da sua adequação ou não a esses papéis, bem como quais as características femininas que parece propor como conducentes a um casamento bem-sucedido. Analisaremos também a importância do casamento na obra do autor e a criação do casal ideal ao longo da mesma.
This dissertation is centered on the study of the representation of women in relation to marriage and the corresponding social roles of wife and mother in certain selected works by Eça de Queiroz, namely the short story “Um Dia de Chuva” and the novels A Cidade e as Serras, Os Maias and O Primo Bazilio. It will try to understand the degree up to which the author evaluates his female characters from the point of view of their adequacy for those roles, as well as which physical and psychological traits he considers conducive to a successful marriage. It will also analize the importance of marrige in the author’s work and the creation of the ideal couple throughout it.
