Abstract(s)
impulsionador do desenvolvimento pessoal.
Higher education continues to be battered by the evidence that students are not learning what they need, to do well in the university setting and beyond, in their professional lives. Therefore, professional development and its integration with personal development, start to gain experimental momentum. Personal development is starting to emerge as a valued concept in light of professional development, acknowledging the impact of their interrelation, showing that each facilitates the other. The importance of this concept emerges in the population of caregive professions, it being understood that caregiver training may boost personal development and vice-versa. To study this process it is necessary to understand which are the development experiences, and their nature, that students go through during training. The central research question was “What is the impact of a semester’s course for the development of students in the caregiving training path (Psychology and Nursing)?”. This study used a qualitative methodology with a sample of 18 Psychology and 12 Nursing students, and data was analysed using Thematic Analysis, with a special focus on the personal development processes. Results show the courses impacted the developmental process in a positive way. Personal development processes are revealed, and several changes towards self improvement are described. Factors that influence professional and personal development, both positively and negatively, are found. The results of the two samples are compared. The results are discussed based on the reviewed literature and the research questions and goals, and conclusions, limitations and implications are weaven.
