Resumo(s)
The Santa Clara monastery, established in 1497, has been functioning according to its original purpose to this day. After being classified as a national monument in 1940, the architectonic whole benefited from the intervention of the Direção Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais which put in place considerable repairs to the surroundings destined for educational activities. Today, the resident religious community provides an important educative service through the nursery and kindergarden, along with the opening to the public of the areas of greater artistic interest. It is this functional organic that characterizes both the usage of the monument and its relation to the community. With the goal of finding a way of safeguarding the integrated heritage of the old monastery, a museological framework is proposed that integrates both material and immaterial heritages associated with the monument. The possibility of bringing the heritage closer to educational and religious community as well as the general public through an integrated museological strategy that promotes the awareness of the importance of its safekeeping as a cultural identity symbol is also considered
